The Role Of Revenge Tragedy In Hamlet - 1020 Words

An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind is a common saying for revenge. Like Shakespeare he based most of his tragedies based on: betrayal, death, lies, and revenge, and they can be view throughout the whole play Hamlet. In the tragedy Hamlet, Shakespeare utilizes Hamlet’s character as a major role in the development of a revenge tragedy by his loss of morality, individuality, and madness throughout the play, further clarifying that indeed Hamlet is a revenge tragedy. Although Hamlet is not the only Shakespearean play that exaggerates crime and simultaneously enhances it, it also emphasis the difficulties of detection of an individual’s perception, do to the effect of scepticism; setting the play apart from the others. This is most brave, that I, the son of a dear father murderd prompted to my revenge by heaven and hell, must, like a whore, unpack my heart with words and fall-a-cursing like a very drab.†Although Hamlet can be seen as a â€Å"serial killer†, as the sympathetic protagonist in a revenge play, Hamlet’s killings take place in a favourable circumstances: when Hamlet kill polonius in anger and haste, he doesn’t do in a cold blooded way and it also shows a case of mistaken identity because Hamlet believed that it was King Claudius. Despite Hamlet’s mistake he’s still motivated to avenge his father’s death. Furthermore, Hamlet’s individuality can be seen fade away as he plans to avenge his father’s death. Although it is a taboo subject; if a loved one was faced with a terminal illness becoming extremely critical this would pose a moral question. Could a person be willing to accept the fact their family member intended to use medical assisted suicide? Very few individuals would agree with this, but in the same instance should a human being want their relative to be in unbearable pain?
